David Zwang talks with John Beadel, President of Associated Printing Production Inc. (APPi), founded in 1991 by Beadel and his brother. From day one, the company’s primary client bases were the cruise line, hospitality, and leisure industries—the ones that were the hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis. Facing a “devastated business,” APPi worked with Biomaster on an antimicrobial coating for paper that provides life-time, 24/7 protection for printed materials. As the leisure industry starts to reopen, demand has skyrocketed.

Who is the US supplier of the coating you use?
By David L. Zwang on Jul 08, 2020
You should contact John Beadle at APPi. He worked with his current supplier and BioMasters in the UK to make it happen

We looked at this for our clients. Anti microbial is not anti viral. Upon further research, we could identify no coatings that are lab tested and approved for anti viral properties. If APPi or anyone has an antiviral option that effectively addresses COVID 19, then I would appreciate knowing this.....for the good of our industry and all our clients.

You are correct. There's a ton of claims about antimicrobial coatings being effective but none of them against COVID 19. It's misleading and confusing to the industry but it has been the buzz of 2020.

Perhaps some insight?

David- Thanks. The sentence halfway down says it all. I'm not trying to rain on the parade, but we are talking about life and death representations here.
Biomaster has yet to be tested against Covid-19 on product surfaces and currently there is no method available by which it can be tested.

The other thing to realize is that antimicrobial additives are designed to protect the printed piece or anything coated with, i.e. Marine, Industrial, Outdoor exposure, etc., to inhibit growth of mold, mildew, fungus, some germs depending on the type of additive, % of content, and efficacy. The misleading part is that claims are being made to assume that humans are protected if they handle it and it's not an accurate statement. Even the ISO Standard 2007 Revision they cite regarding testing is outdated. The Trade Social Media has been blowing up with this since the beginning of the year with coating manufacturers from around the world making claims that lead customers into a false sense of safety and security.

While I am sure many will watch this video, I wonder how many will read the response comments. Maybe David Zwang and John Beadel should consider a clarifying video or article.
