Project Summary:
When Austin Achieve Public Schools discovered how easy it was for the public to see into the school through the school’s doors and windows, they began considering graphics that could be applied to the windows and doors. They wanted the graphics to enhance privacy and protection, while still allowing in natural light and looking inviting for students. To achieve these goals, the school sought the expertise of those at Sign Depot ATX Creative.

Since 2012, Sign Depot ATX has been designing, printing and installing large format graphics to meet their customers’ individual requirements. Upon learning of Austin Achieve Public Schools’ needs, Sign Depot ATX came up with a plan to create window and door graphics imprinted with whimsical education icons.

Sign Depot ATX Executive Director Fernando Chavez considered several materials for the project but ultimately decided to use Mactac IMAGin® B-free Frosted Window Films (JX5796MBF) – which is known for its ability to apply quickly and easily while eliminating any graphic wrinkling or bubbling. He selected the films because they are cost-effective, offer excellent printability and can be applied dry, which means faster installation and less mess than with wet-apply films. Before the final installation, Chavez worked with Mactac Inside Sales Representative Lee Bacsik to test the films to ensure they were the best fit for the job.

Sign Depot ATX created the finished graphics using an HP Latex printer, followed by a plotter cutter. The team used transfer tape for the installation.

“Mactac’s B-free Frosted Window Films were much easier to install, and we were able to smooth out any wrinkles that occurred during the install,” Chavez said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the final results. The window films are flawless, visually appealing and meet the school’s needs for privacy and protection.”

IMAGin® B-free Frosted Window Film is a 3.1-mil translucent, matte-frosted polymeric PVC film. It is coated on one side with a micro-structured, repositionable permanent clear acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive and is supplied with 80# polycoated layflat liner. The unique adhesive allows for the increased speed of application, without air bubbles or wrinkling.
