According to an announcement from
Rochester Institute of Technology, the institution has received New York state approval for the first doctoral degree in sustainability.
I suspect it won't be long before we see the
RIT School of Print Media turning out well-educated experts on building and managing green printing companies!
The program being offered through the
RIT Golisano Institute for Sustainability focuses on sustainable production. Its goal is to advance research and education in alternative energy development, sustainable design, green product development, industrial ecology and pollution prevention.
RIT said it plans to admit students into the program immediately and is recruiting faculty and research associates. The institute said an initial grant from the
Henry Luce Foundation made program development possible.
The
Golisano Institute for Sustainability was founded in 2007 with a $10 million gift from
B. Thomas Golisano, founder and chairman of
Paychex Inc. and an RIT trustee. Other funding for the center came from the
Chester & Dorris Carlson Charitable Fund, Xerox Corp, the
New York State Assembly and the
New York State Senate, the institute said.
