With the struggles the US Newspapers are having I am wondering if it will impact the pay structure of those within and around it.

Not usually. Association executives are paid on the basis of the performance of their own organization, with little regard to the industry performance. Their job is to create revenues with a bottom line in any manner they can for the survival and growth of the association. In some associations, the board is recruited by the executive director, which does create a problem, just like in "real" business, where performance and pay may not be congruent.
