The Open Publishing Lab at RIT's School of Print Media was selected to receive a HP Labs Innovation Award. RIT was chosen from more than 450 proposals from 200 universities in 28 countries HP received.
According to HP Labs, "Awardees will work with HP Labs researchers on speculative and potentially game-changing research, the results of which are expected to generate the next set of technology breakthroughs in the areas of information explosion, dynamic cloud services, content transformation, intelligent infrastructure and sustainability."
The award will fund the development of An Automated Framework for Collecting, Tagging, Transforming, and Publishing Web Repository Content to Unified Print Layouts which is essentially a Web-based publishing system that will gather content from online repositories, such as wikis and blogs, and transform it into unified, well-designed print-ready documents.
OPL will open-source the software applications it develops for the framework.
