New Hampshire joins 15 other states with initiatives to create state-run do not mail registries. The legislation would "establish a restricted mail registry in the department of justice."
According to PIA imPRINT, "The level of support for the bill within the NH state legislature is uncertain at this time. Fortunately, the Committee has a pro-business reputation and many citizen legislators serving in NH have small business backgrounds."

Based on consumer's previous response to the "do not call" register, it might make sense for printer's to plan on the appropriate response to do not mail registers nationwide. My guess is that a voter survey would show overwhelming support for "do not mail". Sooner or later any number of politicians are going to figure out it will help them get elected. Maybe a better response from the industry would be along the lines that the best way to eliminate junk mail is for an opt in program, similar to opt in emails. It puts the industry on the side of the angels, and allows the players already in the game to leverage their present positions.
