Amazon.com has launched a new Books on Demand services that will enable authors to self-publish their work through Amazon.com. The service will be available through Amazon's CreateSpace subsidiary.

In the annoucment Jeff Wilke, senior vice president, North American Retail for Amazon.com said "The new CreateSpace Books on Demand service removes substantial economic barriers and makes it really easy for authors who want to self-publish their books and distribute them on Amazon.com. The service will also give millions of Amazon customers access to an even greater selection of books, just as CreateSpace's DVD and CD on Demand services are adding significant selection to our movie and music catalogs"

Like other Web-enabled printing systems, all interaction with CreateSpace is through their Web-based system. The systems supports uploading books, managing virtual inventory, and sales reports.

CreateSpace will not charge setup fees or require minimum orders for the CreateSpace on-demand service. Prices for the services are a fixed $3.15 plus $.02 per B&W page and $.12 per color page. A 300 page book with a color cover would cost $9.39.
