Inline MAXSON Sheeter Increases Vinyl Extruder Output

Press release from the issuing company

MAXSON AUTOMATIC MACHINERY COMPANY (Westerly RI USA) offers a sheeter that allows vinyl extruders to realize maximum line speed potential when producing sheets in line. Using dual knife rotary cutter technology, rather than a drop shear design, the sheeter can convert a web up to 0.120” (3.0 mm) thick into precise, square sheets at speeds of up to 300 fpm (90 mpm). The cutter is outfitted with a unique design that allows the Operator to adjust the knife clash while in operation to insure a clean, hairless cross cut. An extending grid system at the stacker allows the sheeter to continuously run while a skid is being removed, thus avoiding line stoppages during pile changes.

The dual knife/rotary cutter design has both the top and bottom blades mounted in rotating cylinders. Because of the synchronization of knife speed to web speed, no squareness adjustment is required when changing sheet lengths. The cross cutting blades are up to 83” (2100 mm) long, allowing up to an 80” (2030 mm) web trim width. The upper revolver is capable of being shifted transversely across the width of the cutter to increase (or decrease clash). This allows the Operator to improve cut quality while running the sheeter.

A grid that extends out over the pile is provided to allow continuous operation of the sheeter while offloading piles. Up to a 6” (152 mm) pile of sheets from 11” – 110” (279 – 2790 mm) long can be accumulated on the extending grid while a skid change occurs. The extruded aluminum fingers are extended and retracted under the tape section by a manual hand wheel on the Operator side.
