Central Oregonian Completes First Run on New Press

Press release from the issuing company

Burlington, Wash. – The Central Oregonian completed its first run on their “new” pressline on December 1st as planned. The second-hand 13-unit Goss Community SSC press was supplied, delivered and installed by imPRESSions Worldwide. Central Oregonian’s parent company, Pamplin Media Group negotiated the press purchase with imPRESSions in order to fulfill their agreement with EO Media, to print the Bend Bulletin, which recently shut down its printing plant. imPRESSions worked with Pamplin Media and EO Media to leverage the best solutions for both companies’ merging needs. Upgrades to the SSC press allows Central Oregonian to go from a 4-day work week to 7 days a week and with capacity to print 16-page broadsheet newspapers with 12 pages in full color. This machine will also facilitate additional commercial print products for the Bulletin.

President and publisher of Pamplin Media Group, Mark Garber said, “We greatly appreciate the imPRESSions team’s hard work and fast turnaround on this project. It’s been a difficult job to get the press up and running in such a short period of time and both the imPRESSions team and our team in Prineville have shown extraordinary dedication. We have only a few small bugs. We certainly appreciate all imPRESSions has done to support us.”

Tom Loesch, president of imPRESSions said, “It is an honor to work with both Pamplin and EO Media on this project. This job had to be executed fast. It was a challenge as the planning for the job could not start until the bankruptcy auction was complete and then the clock was already ticking with numerous deadlines in effect. Typically, our projects are carefully planned over many months and we try to account for every variable in advance. With this project we had to adjust on the fly in order to get the press delivered and running (while the old press continued to print in the same room) by December 1st. We worked through the holiday and our test runs were basically live jobs. I would categorize the level of success producing jobs each day since December 1st as extraordinary, all things considered and with great appreciation for both of our crews. A special shout out to Scott Porter in Prineville and Steve Salvino for their unwavering commitment to the success of this installation!”
