American Forest & Paper Association Releases October 2019 Printing-Writing Monthly Report

Washington, D.C. – The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the October 2019 Printing-Writing Monthly report on November 18.

According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 10 percent in October compared to October 2018. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased 13 percent in October compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased four percent when compared to September 2019.

U.S. purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers in October decreased 11 percent compared to last October while the inventory level decreased three percent compared to September 2019. UFS imports and exports both increased compared to September 2018, up seven percent and 12 percent, respectively.

Coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments decreased 11 percent compared to October 2018 while the inventory level decreased two percent compared to September 2019. CFS imports and exports both decreased compared to September 2018, down ten percent and six percent, respectively.

U.S. purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers in October decreased seven percent compared to last October while the inventory level decreased 17 percent compared to September 2019. CM imports and exports both decreased compared to September 2018, down 22 percent and 17 percent, respectively.

Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 22 percent compared to October 2018 while the inventory level decreased seven percent compared to September 2019. UM imports and exports both decreased compared to September 2018, down 13 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
