Two-week turnaround times reduced to ten hours with Canon’s inkjet technology
Providing printing services for a multitude of departments across 12 high schools, 18 middle schools, and 56 elementary schools—approximately 117,000 students in the Houston area—Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District was in need of a reliable device to support its busy print shop. It took the District years of research and conversations with various vendors to find the best solution for the schools’ requirements; in the end, it was Canon Solutions America’s team who invested the time and showed the expertise to provide a “turnkey,” end-to-end solution.
Booklets comprise much of the facility’s work by volume, however, Cypress-Fairbanks School District operates a full-service print shop that includes offset and digital technology, full bindery capabilities, and large format printers for posters and banners. Despite the shop’s proficiency and expertise, prior to acquiring the Océ ColorStream, they had to outsource many jobs simply because they did not have the bandwidth to support the vast number of projects coming in year-round. After adding the Océ ColorStream into the mix, a 92-page book that used to take about two weeks to print can now be printed, folded, stitched, and trimmed in 10 hours. With the ability to print and finish jobs in less time, and the number of steps and people involved to complete a project reduced, the print shop is saving significantly on outsourcing costs.
“The Océ ColorStream adds great value to our schools by allowing us to provide a better experience and better results for our teachers and students,” said Derrek Thompson, Manager Printing Services, Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. “Having improved turnaround times allows the content to get in the hands of the end-user faster. Furthermore, pairing the device with the PRISMA workflow software positively impacted our production schedule. It is super easy to work, and our operators had very little difficulty learning the program. There is a lot less stress among our team because we now have the freedom to take our time and do a better job.”
“After a long and thorough search, we are thrilled that Cypress-Fairbanks School District chose to invest in an Océ ColorStream,” remarked Francis McMahon, Executive Vice President, Production Print Solutions, Canon Solutions America. “The press integrated perfectly into their printer fleet and we are confident it will continue to add value to the district by increasing savings and improving efficiencies.”
