GL840P’s Advanced Technology Becomes Backbone of Operation
Rolling Meadows, Ill. – Ironmark, a Baltimore-based marketing services provider serving the mid-Atlantic region, has just installed a Komori Lithrone eight-color 40-inch perfecting press (GL840P) equipped with H-UV. Previously, Ironmark operated five shifts with two Komori 29-inch presses. Just 60 days after installation of the GL840P, its advanced automation and fast job cycle time has made it possible to reduce the same amount of work to fewer than two shifts, delivering 50 percent more efficiency.
Ironmark traces its roots back to 1955 as Frank Gumpert Printing, founded in Silver Spring, Maryland. For the next 50 years, it served the Washington, D.C. metro area with offset printing services. Today, Ironmark has second-generation family leadership in CEO Jeff Ostenso, who guided the company through a 10-year period of growth by acquisitions that expanded services to include creative, print, web, digital marketing and logistics services. In 2014, the company changed its name to Ironmark to reflect its core tenets: grit, hard work and forward-thinking. Ironmark purchased the Komori GL840P with H-UV to be the backbone of their operation, and as part of their overall strategy for the future, which includes increasing production efficiency, reducing labor and meeting customer demands.
According to Matt Marzullo, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Ironmark, “We have been a Komori customer throughout the growth of our company because we love the technology and efficiency Komori’s presses deliver. We do a lot of work for event and sports marketing companies that have tight deadlines and high quality requirements, so it is extremely important that we reinvest and support them with the best equipment possible. Komori is a partner that brings a significant comfort level when it comes to both reliable support and advanced technology.”
Ironmark reports that the automated features of the press, such as the KHS-AI integrated control system and the automatic plate-changing system (APC) have cut makeready time in half. The ability for printed items to cure instantly with the addition of Komori’s H-UV system also contributes to improved efficiency and job turnaround times. “The Komori GL840P is already making an incredible difference in production time and quality. It is simply amazing what this press can do from registration to operation,” said Marzullo.
“We are very happy that Ironmark continues to choose Komori as its strategic partner of today and the future. The GL840P not only meets their goals of enhanced efficiency, high quality and quick turnaround, it is also the foundation for their future growth,” said Mark Milbourn, vice president of sales at Komori America. “It is the perfect fit to meet their business objectives.”
