TORRANCE, Calif. U.S.A (July 15, 2002) --- Xplor International, the worldwide electronic document systems association, named William J. McCalpin, EDP, as General Manager of the not-for-profit, 5,000-member organization, effective July 15. In this senior staff position (previously called President), McCalpin will lead Xplor headquarters staff, operations, and membership, and guide the organization, continuing its legacy as the premiere document and printing resource for professionals worldwide. McCalpin is a leading industry professional with more than 20 years of experience in both document technology and business management. Having served most recently as Treasurer of the Xplor Association Board of Directors, McCalpin‚s breadth of experience stretches from work as a programmer, systems analyst, and programmer supervisor to product manager, senior product advisor, vice-president of product management, and co-principal of a consulting firm. Chairman of the Board of Xplor, James Shand, EDP, said, "Bill is highly capable of managing Xplor International. He‚s innovative and quite attuned to the electronic document marketplace and the needs of the association‚s members." According to McCalpin, Xplor International has evolved over the last 20-plus years, just as the industry has evolved. "We represent the people who have to manage the processes and the technology to deliver customized information to a variety of destinations---and do this quickly, reliably, and cost-effectively. I want to broaden Xplor's reputation as the association that understands and educates individuals and companies that need to function in the hybrid world of paper and electronic delivery media," said McCalpin. McCalpin attended his first Xplor International meeting in 1985, and has been an active participant and volunteer officer ever since. He‚s presented sessions at almost every Xplor Global Conference & Exhibit since 1986, and he‚s been heavily involved in Xplor Region and Chapter events. Some of McCalpin‚s previous volunteer officer positions with Xplor include: Editor-in-Chief of Xploration; Strategic Planning Committee member; and Association Board of Directors associate member and treasurer, among others. McCalpin has a bachelor‚s and master‚s degree in political philosophy from the University of Dallas. At Xplor 2002, the 23rd Global Electronic Document Systems Conference & Exhibit, Oct. 27 - Oct. 30, McCalpin will be presented to the Xplor membership for the first time as General Manager, although he is well known to the membership, having given dozens of sessions at Xplor events on such diverse subjects as ŒBasic Concepts of Electronic Printing‚, and ŒThe XML Bubble‚. Such presentations are typical of the more than 100 sessions at this year‚s Conference and Exhibit that will offer executives and document and printing professionals the latest industry information and best practices. The event will also feature over 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and making major announcements. For more information, go to www.xplor.org/xplor2002
