Canopy Attributes Synergy from Xeikon/PrimeSource Venture to Strong 3rd Quarter
Press release from the issuing company
SEATTLE, WA -- Canopy LLC, a joint venture of PrimeSource and Xeikon NV, today announced that it has successfully installed a number of digital printing systems during the fiscal quarter ending September 30, 2000. The organization was able to leverage the combined resources of PrimeSource and Xeikon to record significant new business and promising growth.
Canopy is dedicated to sales, installation, and ongoing service and support of Xeikon's complete line of digital color and monochrome printing systems in the U.S. and Canada. Commercial, direct mail, label, packaging, and transactional printers primarily utilize Canopy press solutions.
There were many notable sales of Xeikon digital press systems with industry-leading printers, including new customers and additional installs within existing accounts.
-- Kinko's installed three digital presses for its Corporate Printing and Finishing Centers (CPFC) in Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Jose. These provide Kinko's much broader digital color printing capabilities that are price competitive to traditional offset printing alternatives.
-- KP Corporation has identified opportunities for Web-to-print, customized fulfillment applications in Milpitas, CA.
-- In Oakland, CA, Xyan.com, the largest digital printer in North America, is complementing its print fulfillment services by printing literature on an as-needed basis for its clients.
-- Seneca Printing uses its Xeikon digital print capabilities in Franklin, PA, for general commercial printing applications.
Canopy has noticed a significant upward trend of market acceptance for digital printing over the past year. The applications and significant niche opportunities for on-demand printing are much more clearly recognized by the printing industry, including vertical markets such as direct mail, financial, and label printing. Print specifiers, the people who order printing for their companies, have discovered that variable printing can generate exceptional results from personalized print that speaks directly to its readers. Additionally, early pioneers of the technology who have successfully executed their on-demand business plans have required additional capacity.
"We can't ignore the influence positive market trends have had on our encouraging results," noted John Goddard, president of Canopy LLC. "However, we have also benefited greatly by the corporate synergy of cooperation between Xeikon and PrimeSource. Systems are in place, promotions have been successful, and sales and service continue to develop as we identify and serve existing customers and new prospects. The future of Canopy looks very exciting."
