Printers with Internet Access Want to Buy Supplies Online, 33% Already Do!
Press release from the issuing company
Lexington, KY, USA - - WhatTheyThink, the first daily portal for the printing and graphic arts community, has just completed a study of 'Printers with Internet Access.' The study asked printers detailed questions related to their use of the internet. Over 50 percent of all printers surveyed said they would consider buying graphic arts supplies over the web.
Each printer surveyed had internet access on their premises and ranged in size from under $1 million to over $5 million in annual revenue. 54 percent of printers with internet access are open to buying supplies over the web. An astounding 33 percent purchase some supplies now over the internet. Only 2 percent of printers with internet access have tried and decided against buying supplies over the web. 11 percent of the respondents said they would not purchase supplies over the web.
"It is imperative for dealers to implement web based systems for their clients to buy materials online. While this study did not focus on the frequency and specific type of internet ordering, the trend is an increase in internet procurement, not a decrease," said Randy Davidson, President of WhatTheyThink.
Of printers with under $1 million in revenue, 32 percent purchase supplies now over the web with 59 percent saying they were open to the concept. Of printers with $1 million to $5 million in annual revenue, 36 percent purchase supplies on the web and 14 percent say they will not consider the service. Of printers with $5 million plus in annual revenue, 33 percent said they are buying supplies now over the internet and 55 percent said they would consider such services.
Randy continues, "Buying supplies over the internet will only grow as other studies have shown. This data shows yet again that printers with internet access are more optimistic about new technology. Finding these internet savvy professionals will be one challenge for web based supply stores. Another challenge will be actually building a useful, secure site for printers to use."
