Polyester-based card construction to ensure durability
PETix perfectly integrates with advanced card constructions
Mortsel, Belgium – Agfa announces that its PETix film solution has been selected as core material for the new production of the electronic identification (eID) card of Ecuador providing it with adequate durability.
This programme lead by the Instituto Geográfico Militar (IGM), a government entity of Ecuador, is one of the biggest of its category in Latin America and includes the development of a multifunctional eID card. In addition to the identification function the smart card will enable citizens to carry out electronic signature actions, use it as travel document and access social services.
In order to secure a robust and durable card construction, Agfa's PETix OLD and PETix PETG polyester films were selected as overlay and core material respectively. The card's contactless chip layer is embedded between two PETG layers which are laminated with protective OLD overlay film.
"We are pleased to see how Agfa's PETix films are contributing to the achievement of producing more secure documents in Ecuador in a project lead by the IGM.", comments Marc Van Damme, VP Marketing and Sales Agfa Specialty Products. "The Ecuador eID project demonstrates that PETix seamlessly integrates with most advanced card constructions and adds value by offering protection and durability to precious functionality."
