SOUTH HADLEY, MA, - Rexam Image Products, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of coated paper, film and specialty substrates for digital imaging systems, today announced its newly developed digital proofing product line, Proofit(TM). The new stable of digital proofing media has been reformulated with microporous coatings to enhance the use of ink jet printers for high quality proofing. Rexam's new Proofit line features sheeted and roll substrates that are universally compatible with Epson, Hewlett Packard, Encad, Canon, and Colorspan ink jet printers. The coatings are intended to enhance design proofing applications and maximize high-end work flow, particularly when using color management. Rexam will launch the restructured Proofit line with gloss, semi-gloss, and matte digital proofing products as well as a matte imposition product. "In the past, our Proofit line featured media that was aimed at specific sets of printer types and ink types," said Ann Abbey, product manager for digital proofing at Rexam Image Products. "However, the new product line, with its universally compatible coatings, supports a wide variety of printer models, especially the new generation of pigment ink based printers. The media is instant dry even at high ink loads which minimizes dry time and smudging while still providing a high-end color gamut. Because the product line is 'universal' it also provides end users with one SKU and one source for all their ink jet printing media purchases." The new Proofit media is supported with application guides, ICC profiles, and a technical area, which is in development on the new Proofit web site, proofitinkjet.com. The new line includes two glossy digital proofing products. PGLOSSu (high glare) and PSEMIu (low glare) are both microporous coated photobases that can support dye-based and pigmented ink sets. Each is instant drying and offers extremely high water resistance. The Proofit line will also include PMATTEu, Proofit's tried and proven two-sided, 132g matte media which offers high-color gamut, excellent ink absorption, and universal printer compatibility. Rexam's previously offered imposition media has also been included in the new product line and is specifically sized at 28" x 40" for the FUJI Prepress 2000 printer. Custom ICC color profiles will be made available for each of the new Proofit products. Rexam develops ICC color profiles for its Proofit and Magic Display media lines to help users maximize the color of their ink jet printers. "A paper's coating plays a large role in controlling color gamut. Ink jet print quality depends upon the ink and the media working together," says Abbey. "The profiles are there to adjust for the differences between the combinations of RIPs, inks, and printer models."
