Washington, D.C. – Acting GPO Deputy Director Andrew M. Sherman presented the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s (GPO) FY 2019 appropriations request before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Legislative Branch Appropriations. GPO is asking for a flat funded request of $117 million, which is less than the level of funding provided in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2018. Since 2010, GPO appropriations have declined by nearly 21%.

GPO’s continued transition to digital technologies and the modernization of plant operations has increased the agency’s productivity and reduced costs. In discussing modernization of technology at GPO, Sherman pointed out that the value of property, plant, and equipment at the agency has increased from $100 million in FY 12 to $174 million in FY 2017, a reflection of the impact of modernization on the agency over the past five years.

The FY 2019 request will enable GPO to:

• meet projected requirements for congressional publishing;
• fund the operation of the public information programs of the Superintendent of Documents; and
• develop information technology, including cybersecurity, in systems that support our congressional publishing and public information programs operations
