Lillington, North Carolina Offset Plant Will Close; Digital Plant Remains
Ann Arbor, Mich. – Edwards Brothers Malloy announced today that it plans to consolidate all offset printing operations into its Michigan location by the end of 2018, closing its offset facility in Lillington, North Carolina. The company currently occupies three facilities in North Carolina; the digital print operations, customer service, prepress, mailing services, and some bind services will consolidate into an existing facility over the course of the year.
The phased shutdown of the Lillington offset print facility is planned to begin in April and should be completed by the end of the year. Offset customers should see no disruption in their work as projects gradually move into production at the Michigan facility.
“This was a very difficult decision,” said John Edwards, President and CEO. “We continue to see shrinking demand for offset printing and double-digit growth in digital printing. We want to increase our digital footprint and be sure we’re well-positioned to take advantage of opportunities and new markets.”
It is anticipated the restructuring will displace approximately 100 employees over the next 9 months. Edwards said the move will lead to “some” job growth in Michigan and Lillington employees are encouraged to apply for work in Ann Arbor.
The company also has a digital print facility in Blue Ridge, Pennsylvania and two digital print facilities in Chicago, Illinois.
