FujiFilm Produces 20 Millionth DLTtape Cartridge

Press release from the issuing company

ELMSFORD, NY, The Computer Products Division of Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. announced the production of its 20 millionth DLTtape cartridge at its Fujifilm Microdisks U.S.A., Inc. (FMDA) manufacturing facility in Bedford, Massachusetts. This manufacturing milestone heralds Fujifilm's success and strong position in the mid-range data back-up market and further affirms the company's significant role in the storage industry. The history-making cartridge, along with a plaque commemorating the milestone, was presented to representatives of Quantum Corporation at the recent Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Over the years, DLTtape media has evolved into one of the most dominant and widely used formats in all of data storage, and DLTtape IV - enabled by Fujifilm's proprietary ATOMM coating technology - has garnered the majority of sales in the category," said Steve Solomon, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Computer Products Division, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. "It's also important to note that Fujifilm is a primary supplier of DLTtape media to North America, with most of the manufacturing occurring here on U.S. soil." Fujifilm coats its DLTtape IV media at its Greenwood, South Carolina facility, with final manufacturing at FMDA in Bedford, Massachusetts. Each month Fujifilm Microdisks finishes enough computer tape to store 50 billion 400-page books or stretch around the world eight times. "Fujifilm clearly benefits from its growing investments in FMDA and its other U.S. manufacturing operations," continued Solomon, "and we expect the type of production and output we see from Greenwood and Bedford today to continue as we help develop media for emerging data storage technologies, such as Quantum's Super DLTtape."
