Sixth annual top honor winner "pioneered the path for production inkjet printing"
Chicago, IL, - The sixth annual Legacy Award winner was announced at the OUTLOOK 17 Conference on September 10, immediately prior to the opening of the PRINT 17 show floor. The Print Station 91 from Scitex Digital Printing was chosen by the Selection Committee as a former MUST SEE 'EMS honoree that has had a significant, continuing influence on the printing and graphic communications industry.
"All of the candidates under consideration made meaningful contributions to our industry with leading-edge technologies," says NPES President Thayer Long. "After careful review, the Selection Committee determined that the Print Station 91 deserved this high honor."
"In 2002, a page-wide continuous inkjet printhead able to run VDP jobs at web speeds of 1,000 fpm was a revolutionary development," said Program Coordinator Hal Hinderliter. "It represents a truly significant and lasting contribution to the advancement of the industry." Purchased in 2004, Scitex Digital Printing became Kodak Versamark, Inc.; the technology in the Print Station 91 influenced the development of Kodak's Stream presses.
One judge commented, "Inkjet has fulfilled its promise to become a major force in defining the direction of the commercial printing and publishing industries. The seeds planted for commercial printing and publication in the early 2000s have grown beyond expectations. Scitex was in the forefront of such developments with its Print Station 91."
The Legacy Award recognizes one past MUST SEE 'EMS winner that has had a lasting influence on the graphic communications industry. Each year, entries into the MUST SEE 'EMS product and technology recognition program are submitted by the graphic communications industry's top suppliers for possible recognition in one of 11 individual categories. Winners are chosen by the Selection Committee, a panel of print experts, journalists, and consultants who base their choices on the impact they believe these technologies will have on the industry.
