Benefits of Recycled Paper Explained in Brochure Debut from Appleton Coated

Press release from the issuing company

Combined Locks, WI – Affirming the environmental benefits and high quality of recycled fiber papers, Appleton Coated is releasing Choosing Environmentally Friendly Papers, a printed educational guide to papers made with post-consumer recycled fibers (PCRF).

Taking the reader on a journey of messaging, sourcing, papermaking, and transportation, the brochure showcases the attributes contributing to an environmentally-advantaged paper and extols the benefits of using higher percentages of PCRF in paper.

“Printing on high-recycled content papers is an easy and visible choice for today’s forward-thinking brands to demonstrate commitment to the environment,” shares Ann Whalen Appleton Coated’s senior vice president marketing and customer services, “Print is a consumer touch-point. Increasingly, consumers are looking for brands to use sustainable practices in all areas, including printed collateral.”

Printed on papers made at the Appleton Coated mill. The cover is Utopia®U2:XG®, 30% PCRF and the body is Ethos® Uncoated Offset 100% PCRF. The use of these papers over traditional virgin fiber papers provided an environmental savings of:

  • 134 trees
  • 61.5 million BTU’s of energy displaced (approximately 0.6 homes per year)
  • 11,586 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to 1.1 cars per year
  • 62,842 gallons of water, equivalent to just over 473,000 bottles of water (16.9 oz)
  • 4,207 lbs of solid waste eliminated from landfills

Adds Jenni Birkholz, senior marketing specialist, sustainability, “Most companies have sustainability goals. Paper can be a part of achieving those goals while reinforcing key principals in line with brand or company targets, such as landfill reduction, water use reduction, and energy conservation – all measurable savings with the use of recycled paper.”
