Domtar Launches New Line of Forest Stewardship Council Certified Papers
Press release from the issuing company
MONTREAL, April 25 - Domtar Inc. launched today a new line of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified papers. Indeed, two of Domtar's topnotch papers, Domtar Cornwall Coated Cover and Domtar Plainfield Opaque, are now available in an FSC certified line. Domtar is the first company in North America to manage operations from the forest floor to the finished product in a manner that allows it to offer these types of papers.
"Domtar sets trends. We set examples. Behind this unique line of papers lies a completely different way of developing new products: one that is entirely driven by our customers and our partners," said George Kobrynsky, Senior Vice President, Pulp and Paper Sales and Marketing at Domtar. "In fact, these papers are manufactured from fibre that comes from forests that are managed according to standards developed with environmental groups. They also provide customers with products that can tackle all of their business needs, while at the same time offer environmental conservation guarantees", added Mr. Kobrynsky.
The printing performance features of Domtar's new FSC certified line mirrors the excellence, versatility and variety of its parent brand. In fact, Domtar Cornwall Coated Cover and Domtar Plainfield Opaque are renowned papers already used to design and print among other things corporate stationary, flyers, brochures, annual reports, greeting cards, book covers and posters.
Monte Hummel, President of World Wildlife Fund Canada, stated, "Products bearing the FSC seal offer consumers an opportunity to contribute to environmental protection by supporting responsible forestry." FSC-approved Domtar Cornwall Coated Cover and Domtar Plainfield Opaque are just two results of Domtar's close working relationship with the Forest Stewardship Council, and of the company's innovations in forest management, papermaking and use of recycled content.
Domtar is the third largest producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America and the fourth largest in the world. It is also a leading manufacturer of business papers, printing and publishing papers, and specialty and technical papers. Domtar manages close to 36 million acres of forestland in Canada and the United States, and produces lumber and other wood products. Domtar has 12,500 employees across North America. The company also has a 50% investment interest in Norampac Inc., the largest Canadian producer of containerboard.
The Forest Stewardship Council is the independent non-profit organization that sets today's internationally recognized standards for forest management. The 450 member-strong council, representing industry, social and environmental groups along with other stakeholders, monitors activities to ensure that the highest standards possible for environmentally and socially responsible forestry are met and maintained. Products bearing the FSC brand offer consumers the opportunity to contribute to environmental efforts by supporting high-standard forestry.
