Press release from the issuing company
Birmingham-based direct mail fulfilment and print management services provider, bakergoodchild has announced that it has once again pledged its support to local homeless charity, Birmingham Christmas Shelter, with a tremendous donation of £2,500. This will help fight homelessness in Birmingham over the Christmas period and throughout 2017.
This year’s donation matches last year’s pledge of generosity by the direct mail fulfillment company for the same amount.
The aim is to enable the charity to help them to aid as many people as possible.
The direct mail fulfilment company is a long standing supporter of many worthwhile charities. They decided that once again this year they would help aid the plight of the homeless in the Birmingham region, especially the older single men for whom there are very few other services.
Commenting on the donation and support for The Birmingham Christmas Shelter, bakergoodchild Managing Director, Lorraine Burnell, stated, “We at bakergoodchild are delighted to have once again pledged our support and continue our relationship with this local initiative, which relies on donations and volunteers to help it carry out the valuable and worthwhile work it undertakes to help the homeless in Birmingham.”
Lorraine continued, “We hope our donation will help in any way, so that someone in the region will have a hot meal, shelter and support over the festive period. Things that we, take for granted.”
The Birmingham Christmas Shelter is a registered charity that is run entirely by volunteers, and receives no statutory funding. Its aim is to provide food, warmth, shelter and friendship to the homeless and lonely of Birmingham during the Christmas period, regardless of gender, colour, race or religion, something it has been doing for the past 40 years. Birmingham Christmas Shelter provide an essential service during a time when many other facilities are closed.
The doors at the shelter are open to guests 24 hours a day during the Christmas week, and typically they would have up to 150 homeless on a daily basis, providing three hot meals per day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as a continuous tea and coffee and sandwich bar service. Additionally, those who visit the shelter during this period can also get haircuts, showers, have chiropody or dental treatment, enjoy entertainment, obtain clothing and also have a safe, warm place to sleep.
Birmingham Christmas Shelter depends entirely on donations and around 300 very generous volunteers give their free time over the Christmas week to help out in the shelter.
Each Christmas the charity takes over the premises of St George’s Community Hub in Great Hampton Row, Newtown (close to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter), and converts it into a shelter for a week.
