Project& and GSB Digital partner on multimedia exhibit “Working in America”

Press release from the issuing company

NEW YORK – Project&, a non-profit organization that creates art with social impact and other cutting-edge models of cultural participation, recently partnered with GSB Digital, a high-end digital printing company located in New York City, to produce photography prints for the multimedia exhibit “Working in America.” The project's coordinators was referred to GSB Digital by long-standing partner, HP. Pulitzer Prize winner and McArthur Fellow Lynsey Addario and Project& founder Jane M. Saks traveled the country to capture images and stories from 24 people who find deeper meaning in their work beyond a paycheck, and whose jobs reflect the struggles, successes and realities of working in America today.

To prepare for the exhibit, 184 photographs were printed on GSB Digital’s HP Designjet 26500 large format printer with HP Latex 370/ 871 Inks. Megan Jet Satin paper was the substrate of choice for high-quality, lasting images that could maintain strength and color quality while on display. Of those 184 photographs, 92 utilized Ultra Violet matte cold lamination to create a durable finish that could withstand traveling to and from different locations. One set of 46 prints was mounted by GSB Digital on ¼” black Sintra board for added thickness and ease of display. These 46 final prints will be displayed in the “Working in America” exhibit, which was designed by award winning architect Jeanne Gang and Studio Gang and which will be open to the public at Chicago Public Library’s Harold Washington Library Center from September 14, 2016 through January 31, 2017.

Throughout the production process Saks worked closely with GSB Digital’s staff to ensure each image met strict quality standards required for exhibition. GSB Digital’s large format specialist Rob Cano and Marketing Director Jessica Andersen helped guide Saks and her team in each step of print production, including paper choice and mounting substrates. Getty Images also took part in proofing the images before they were finalized and put on display. “It has been an incredible experience working with GSB Digital,” Saks said. “They are tremendous partners with top-notch technical know-how and we are grateful for their support and expertise as well as their commitment to the project and its importance.”

A national tour is currently in development, and each exhibit location around the U.S. will give thousands of individuals the chance to see high-quality printed photographs depicting the human experience of working. The exhibit is part of a larger initiative that includes a radio series on NPR, and an interactive element that allows members of the public to upload their own stories to an online archive called “Your Working Story.” For more information about “Working in America” please visit Working.org.
