Printing User Forum In Germany

RIVER FALLS, WI – European printers seeking to expand their knowledge of the technical elements and benefits of LED UV curing for commercial operations are invited to attend this year’s UV Printing User Forum, an event staged by Germany’s Fogra Graphic Technology Research Association and set for October 19-20 at the Hilton Munich City Hotel in Munich, Germany.

Air Motion Systems’ new Multiwave LEDTM technology for its flagship XP SeriesTM LED UVTM curing modules will be highlighted during the event this optional upgrade blends multiple UV reaction points within a single LED module, so that a spectrum of wavelengths is output. The end result is that printers can cure a wider variety of inks and coatings, including traditional UV inks that use standard UV photo initiators, with one versatile LED UV module.

“We predict the end of mercury arc lamps by the next drupa,” said AMS president Steve Metcalf, who will lead the presentation.

“LED UV curing is more efficient, cost-effective, environmentally friendly and practical than conventional UV curing – and with the upcoming developments in its realm, like the new Multiwave option for XP Series modules, printers won’t be able to avoid turning to LED if they want to stay relevant and profitable.”

Multiwave technology will be reviewed as part of the first key issue being covered at this year’s forum, which is the advantages of LED UV and UV curing (radiation curing) and their best applications and practices.

Fogra said it hopes to “bring clarity to the range of commercially available curing processes, and their possibilities and limitations,” by honing in on this topic. They also noted that a new process, electron beam curing for inkjet printing, will be touched upon during the two-day gathering.

The second topic on the roster at this year’s forum is the migration of ink components, and the limits they impose on packaging production.
