Press release from the issuing company
Seaway Printing (Green Bay, Wisconsin) recently installed a Speedmaster XL 106-4+L with Prinect Inpress Control to maximize savings potential and accelerate the company’s future growth. The new press will run alongside an existing Speedmaster XL 105 — resulting in additional capacity with the quality and performance required for the short and medium run book printer.
Peak Performance equals Peak Productivity
The Speedmaster XL 106 delivers peak performance running speeds of 18,000 sheets per hour with impressive makeready times. According to President Kevin Heslin, with the addition of Prinect Inpress Control, the company expects to decrease their makeready time by 25%, and cut the number of makeready sheets in half.
“We’re expecting to decrease turnaround times and jumpstart significant savings with the XL 106 press,” said Heslin. “Overall, we’re anticipating a 50% increase in productivity and efficiency throughout the shop.”
Outshining the Competition
With seven years since its last offset purchase, Seaway’s existing Speedmaster XL 105 had reached the capacity limits of production. The XL 105 marked the company’s transition from a half-size shop to a 40-inch shop — offering more services to its current customers and attracting new clientele. As the only shop north of Milwaukee with the technology, the company was able to maintain a healthy competitive advantage against others in the market.
“The new press is an extension of our commitment to our customers,” said Heslin. “The XL 105 already gave us the competitive advantage in our segment. The XL 106 will further develop those advantages with even better turnaround times. We want to provide our customers with the highest quality product in a short amount of time.”
The Right ROI
“We initially considered purchasing a used press to increase our capacity,” said Heslin. “After analyzing the cost of manufacturing and assessing the features of machines, the new XL 106 provided the best ROI.”
The Speedmaster XL 106-4+L comes equipped with AutoPlate XL, providing fully automatic plate changes, and Inpress Control, the industry leading spectrophotometric in-line color management system for measuring and controlling both color and registration. Together, these features decrease makeready times and paper waste during setup, enhancing the company’s efficiency while producing short and medium run books, magazines and direct mail.
