Ultimaker Allows Bhold to Break Through Traditional Manufacturing and Design

(AMSTERDAM)- Ultimaker, the leading open source 3D printer manufacturer, makes it possible for Bhold, a modern product design company, to produce minimalistic and effective products to solve everyday problems, such as tangled cords and speakers. Bhold uses an Ultimaker 2+ to create, test and manufacture their products faster than a traditional manufacturing process.

Bhold's newest product made in collaboration with Ultimaker, the Bsonic iPad Speaker went through 39 beta tested versions with 64 testers from 22 countries. Through expanding Bhold Labs with Ultimaker's global sharing platform YouMagine, Bhold created the first open and transparent beta testing program that allows anyone anywhere to download and 3D print prototypes ahead of final release.

Bhold, founded in 2013 in New York, uses 3D printing to create, prototype and manufacture their designs at a highly accelerated speed, allowing them to scale at a rapid rate. Here is the process:

  • Bhold creates user-friendly minimalistic products by focusing on the feedback they receive from a network of special testers.
  • The testers receive a file with the 3D printing blueprint for the item, then print it themselves to get a sense of how the item is created and finally test it themselves.
  • Testers provide feedback, the design is tweaked and the process continues until an aesthetically beautiful, user-friendly and highly functional product is created.
  • Once the most effective design is decided upon given the feedback from testers, Bhold releases a 3D printed concept product and based on demand produces at scale through the most fitting manufacturing method. This reduces waste and maximizes efficiency
