Modern Litho signs for Speedmaster XL 106 LPL machine at drupa

Press release from the issuing company

Kennesaw, Ga. – Long-time Heidelberg partner, Modern Litho Print Company (Jefferson City, MO), signed for a Speedmaster XL 106-5-LYYL-P+5+L at drupa. The new press, equipped with the latest drupa innovation technology, will allow the company to coat both sides of a job in a single pass - resulting in improved productivity and reduced manufacturing costs.

One Pass Productivity

"We knew that in order to continue our growth plan, we needed to increase capacity," said Darrell Moore, President. "An essential segment of our business requires coating - the ability to perfect coating jobs in one pass will also allow us to provide tighter turnaround times [without affecting the delivery of another customer's work], maintain differentiation in the market and bring in new clients."

The XL 106 LPL (Print, Coat, Perfect, Print, Coat) configuration takes full printed sheets with aqueous coating (on both sides) straight from the delivery to the bindery - improving processing times at a lower cost compared to UV presses, which can inflict higher costs due to the premium price of UV inks and coatings.

The new 10-color press will run alongside two existing Speedmaster XL 105 presses (a 5-color and an 8-color), an SM 52 and a range of Stahlfolder and POLAR postpress solutions. "We've been very pleased with the productivity results from both XL 105 presses," said Moore. "The 8-color [XL 105] alone has reached over 150 million impressions since its 2012 installation. We know what these presses are capable of, so we are excited to take on additional opportunities with this new investment."

Perks of Partnership

Modern Litho purchased its first new Heidelberg press (SM 52) in 2006. A year later, the company installed its first XL 105-5+L, then a Speedmaster XL 105-8P in 2012, which replaced three older presses - sparking a new, distinctive partnership with a focus on optimizing growth and increasing integration.

"This is not a one-directional relationship, it's a win-win situation for both us and Heidelberg," said Moore. "This new press is a clear indication that we have the right partner to leverage our business in a competitive market."

"Modern Litho knows what it means to truly invest in their business growth - analyzing the greatest technology in the marketplace, and researching every opportunity to determine what fits their needs best," said Clarence Penge, Vice President, Sheetfed, Heidelberg USA. "We are honored that Modern Litho has chosen Heidelberg to further elevate performance, and we are thrilled to continue this successful partnership."

For over seven decades, both local and national companies seeking excellence in commercial and digital print have trusted Modern Litho for their communication and marketing needs. Modern Litho takes pride in investing in state-of-the-art capabilities, equipment, and systems to increase efficiency, accelerate delivery times and print with superior quality.
