Many futurists, particularly in Europe, believe we're now experiencing a "post-information" revolution. Coined "Industry 4.0," or the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it's considered the next phase in the digitization of the manufacturing sector.

Industry 4.0 has also been called the "Internet of Things," one that will unleash disruptive technologies that will result in industry game-changers. Within the finishing arena, these new technologies must address the flexible adaptation of products (even those with a lot size of one) under conditions of highly automated, large-scale production.

Although experts believe that the economy of the future will revolve around digital networking and the constant exchange of information, Bruno Muller, Muller Martini CEO, commented, "That future got underway many years ago in the graphic arts industry, and Muller Martini's solutions have long been leading the way. We truly represent "Finishing 4.0" because the intelligent connectivity of our machines enables highest variability and flexibility in regards to print run lengths, format sizes and content. We will be sharing and demonstrating this view to visitors during drupa 2016."

Muller Martini's Finishing 4.0 is reflected by innovative solutions in the finishing of digital and offset printed products, smart automation and connectivity, maximum variability and flexibility of run sizes, sizes and content, and an end-to-end touchless workflow. At the Muller Martini exhibit (Hall 2, Stand A49), drupa visitors will see for themselves how Muller's highly automated print finishing systems can help them produce both long- and ultra-short runs cost-effectively, while providing opportunities to launch new business models and revenue streams.
