Nashville, TN – Mr. Dennis Reed, Retired President & CEO of V.G. Reed & Sons in Louisville, Kentucky, was named by the Printing Industry Association of the South, Inc. (PIAS) as their Person of the Year. This honor was bestowed at a banquet held on June 16, 2015 during the PIAS Annual Convention at the Hilton SanDestin Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.
Dennis Reed is called many things…Dad, DTM, Big Joe, Grandpa, Pa, Husband, Uncle, Brother, Cousin, and Friend. This year, he added one more name to this long list: 2015 PIAS Person of the Year.
Born Christmas Day in 1941, Dennis Reed grew up in Louisville, Kentucky where he graduated from Valley High School and went on to receive degrees from the University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University and Michigan State University.
Mr. Reed’s career experiences spanned Department Store Clerk all the way up to Executive Management positions. From 1990 to 2005, he served as President & CEO of V.G. Reed & Sons, a printing company his grandfather started from the ground up in a rented home the half basement in 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Reed retired from that family business in August of 2006, but today it is still third generation owned and managed, with fourth generation family members a part of its workforce. The company has been a member of PIAS for over 40 years.
Dennis Reed began his service on the PIAS Board of Directors in 1996, then serving on Executive Committee in 2002 where he eventually served as Chairman of the Board from 2005 to 2006.
Also active in civic and community affairs, Dennis Reed has been President of the Rotary Club of South Louisville, served many years on the Board of Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana and the Board of Sunrise Children’s Services (a statewide advocacy organization.)
Dennis Reed is a Christian and a member of West Broadway Baptist Church where he sings in the choir and is a member of the Quartet. He has been married to his lovely wife Judy for 16 years. Even post-industry retirement, he & Judy still attend the PIAS Convention each year, as Destin continues to be one of their favorite convention spots. Mr. Reed has four adult children, five grandchildren, one foster to adopt grandchild, two great- grandchildren and three rescue dogs.
The PIAS Person of the Year is chosen for service to the printing industry, community and betterment of the graphic arts industry as a whole.
PIAS is a graphic arts trade association representing more than 400 member companies in their seven state region: Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
