Industry representatives will share with lawmakers details of the industry’s positive economic impact on New York and its commitment to sustainable manufacturing leadership under AF&PA’s Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 initiative.
“The pulp, paper and paper-based packaging industry in New York supports tens of thousands of good jobs and economic growth for the state while utilizing sustainable manufacturing practices to make products essential for everyday life,” said AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman. “We look forward to working with state lawmakers to ensure that any legislation considers our sustainability leadership and use of renewable, reusable and recyclable resources.”
Two hundred and eighty-four pulp, paper, paper packaging and wood products facilities operate in New York. These facilities employ 30,000 New Yorkers with an annual payroll of approximately $1.6 billion. Estimated state and local taxes paid by the industry total $179 million annually.
“AWC is pleased to have the opportunity to participate in our industry's New York Advocacy Day to share with legislators the many advantages of wood products, highlight opportunities to remove policy barriers to building with wood, and provide information on our industry and its impact in New York,” said AWC President and CEO Robert Glowinski.
