New 3M Window Films Make Windows into Showcases

Press release from the issuing company

The only cast vinyl window films on the market give users more options to put windows to work

ST. PAUL, Minn. – When is a window more than just a window? When it’s put to work on vehicles, storefronts, or interior surfaces. Seeing windows as promotional real estate means recognizing their true value in brand building—and knowing how to help business owners look their best for long-term brand marketing. With new 3M™ Window Graphic Film 8170-P50 and 3M™ Window Graphic Film 8170-P40, graphics manufacturers can offer top quality films to showcase their customer’s brand and create striking messages.

The only high-performance cast vinyl perforated films on the market, the new products are the most versatile window films available, giving graphics manufacturers the option to print cross-platform—including UV, latex, solvent ink jet and screen printing. The 4-mil cast vinyl films lay flat during printing and do not lift around simple and mild compound curved windows. They provide better lifting resistance than calendered vinyl films, while maintaining easy handling for installation and removal. Both are backed by the 3M™ MCS™ Warranty and 3M Performance Guarantee, giving users added confidence in their industry-leading capabilities for long-term brand marketing.

With a 50/50 perforation pattern, 3M Window Graphic Film 8170-P50 offers balanced viewing from both sides of the film and is optimal for vehicle graphics, while 3M Window Graphic Film 8170-P40 offers a 60/40 perforation pattern for greater printable surface and increased image quality with slightly reduced (non-imaging) viewing through the second surface.* The 60/40 perforation is ideal for high-profile messaging in storefront windows. Each has a three-year expected performance life, giving customers striking window views that last for the long-term.**

"These films give users unmatched flexibility and versatility," said Mike J. Petrich, 3M technical service specialist. "Whether they are used for vehicle windows or store-front graphics, and across a wide variety of printing platforms, the films help users put their window space to work."

The new films are available from 3M distributors in 54" and 36" roll widths. Film 8170-P50 replaces 3M™ Scotchcal™ Perforated Window Graphic Films IJ8171 and 8671. The films are recommended for use with 3M™ Scotchcal™ Optically Clear Overlaminate 8914 for the best optical clarity, protection and a high gloss finish.

*First surface is imaged and intended for viewing from several to many feet away; back side is perforated black and see-through increases the farther the viewer is from that side.

**Expected performance life is the estimated period of time the unprinted product, without graphic protection, should perform satisfactorily when applied to a flat vertical outdoor surface.
