BURSCOUGH, UK - Eventureworks has begun running its second Roland VersaArt RE-640 wide-format printer just days after buying the machine from Quality Print Services (QPS) at Sign and Digital UK.

Eventureworks and QPS shook on the deal on the first day of Sign UK, where the Roland RE-640 was running Nazdar dye-sublimation inks – ideal for Eventureworks's specialist output of cycle jerseys.

QPS director Chris Bailey travelled from the supplier's Lancashire base just eight days later to install it in Eventureworks's Falkirk printroom, side by side with an identical Roland RE-640 installed by QPS in December.

Brian Gibb, director at Eventureworks, explains why he opted for a second RE-640: "We're launching a new website and wanted to increase production by replacing a Mimaki machine, which was a little out of date, with one that could deliver more volume reliably.

"We were toying with the idea of installing a faster, larger machine but decided on two slightly slower, identical printers to give us greater production flexibility and to provide a degree of redundancy in the unlikely event of technical difficulties down the line so we can easily transfer jobs to the other and still work at 50 per cent capacity. Our customers demand a quick turnaround and this way we can offer a much faster service than our competitors in the sportswear market."

He adds: "We do a lot of unattended printing and having two identical Rolands means we have greater control over production; we can just load jobs and let them run."

The Roland VersaArt RE-640 is a high-performance 64" solution offering image quality up to 1440 x 720dpi. With an optional automated take-up system for unattended printing and ability to support media rolls up to 40kg in weight, it is ideal for printing sublimation transfers with Nazdar dye-sublimation inks from QPS – which Brian Gibb says provide both quality and reliability.

QPS, an authorised Roland dealer for dye-sublimation applications, also provides technical support, which Brian Gibb describes as 'second to none'.

"We have worked with Eventureworks since 2002, providing Nazdar inks, tech support and now Roland dye-sublimation hardware solutions," explains QPS director Chris Bailey. "Producing specialised output like cycle jerseys means the business has to be as competitive as possible, and the two Roland machines running reliable, top-quality Nazdar dye-sub inks help to achieve that.

"We're looking forward to seeing the business develop with the additional capacity the second printer allows."

Eventureworks prints bespoke cycle jerseys for individuals, charity ride teams, cycling clubs and blue-chip companies taking part in cycling challenges, as well as T-shirts and other sportswear, through its website TheCycleJersey.com. In addition, the company's TheFloorPoster.com site offers printed floor mats, bar runners, banners and fabric window displays, all printed on the Roland VersaArt RE-640 machines with Nazdar dye-sublimation inks.
