Rodencal Receives 2014 TAPPI Paper and Board Division Technical Award

ATLANTA, Ga. – Tom Rodencal, Principle Consultant, Global Graphic Paper Services for Nalco will be presented the 2014 TAPPI Paper and Board Division Technical Award and Harris O. Ware Prize in recognition of his outstanding technical accomplishments. He will be recognized at the PaperCon 2014 Awards Dinner on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Nashville, TN, USA.

“During a 40-year career in the pulp and paper industry Tom Rodencal’s work in a variety of areas has made major contributions to the industry’s knowledge and understanding of paper making technology and the chemistry of papermaking,” notes Larry N. Montague, TAPPI President and CEO. ”He’s also a dedicated member of TAPPI that has tirelessly contributed to the association and its membership. He’s an outstanding choice for this award.”

Rodencal’s career began at Strathmore Paper Company as a mill chemist and he later worked for parent company Hammermill Paper. He subsequently held mill operations and corporate service positions with International Paper, worked for Georgia Pacific in Corporate Engineering and was Director, Paper Machine Technology, for Domtar. Tom has also been president of his own consulting company. Currently he is Principle Consultant, Global Graphic Paper Services, at Nalco.

A TAPPI member for over 35 years he’s actively served the Paper and Board Division in a variety of leadership roles including chair of the Papermakers Committee and Paper and Board division and served on the TAPPI board of directors. He is currently working on the TAPPI 100th Anniversary Steering Committee, PaperCon Technical Program Committee and the Specialty Papers Conference Steering Committee while also remaining active on the Papermakers and Water Removal Committees.

Rodencal has written several articles for TAPPI and authored numerous Technical Information Papers (TIPs). For many years he has also been an instructor at the Wet End Operations and Pressing and Drying Courses.
