Just after celebrating the Chinese New Year of the horse, there was another reason for celebration: People´s Daily, China`s most influential newspaper, opted for another UNISET from manroland web systems. The newspaper press, which will be installed at the end of this year at People`s Daily`s new printing center, is covered by the sixth contract between manroland web systems and the important Chinese newspaper printer. 

People´s Daily is the most important newspaper in China. The company produces more than 70 different editions with approximately 5 million broadsheet copies each day, which means 18.25 billion copies a year. After due consideration and in-depth analysis, People´s Daily decided to invest in another UNISET newspaper press from manroland web systems. The secretary general of People´s Daily, Mr. Yan Xiaoming, highlighted the company`s great appreciation for manroland web systems presses. “All installations have proved their worth during the last years. We chose the UNISET mainly because of the German quality, the technological reliability, high standard and the outstanding productivity”, Mr. Yan Xiaoming mentioned at the contract signing ceremony on February 18, 2014. “There is a proved, reliable and stable cooperation and friendship between our company and manroland web systems.” Dr. Frank Tietsche, Vice President Sales at manroland web systems, emphasized the strategic relationship between the two partners: “What is associated with this contract is an aspired new level of a strategic alliance with broad content.” 

Highest Flexibility for Challenging Productions

The new UNISET for People´s Daily will be equipped with six eight couple towers, three folders, four balloon formers and seven reel splicers. The newspaper press shows highest flexibility for the challenging productions the printer has to deal with from day to day. The UNISET runs with a production speed of 80,000 copies per hour and therewith is the world`s fastest press in this category. 

The UNISET for People’s Daily is actually the second installation in China to be equipped with the ControlCenter, the new operating system from manroland web systems that has been launched at drupa 2012. The ultra modern operating system provides highest automation features and the latest technologies. The manroland web systems ControlCenter is the most progressive operating system in the printing industry and part of the One Touch philosophy. All relevant information can be caught at a glance and the operator can interact intuitively with a finger tip - at any place, at any time, as the system for People´s Daily is also equipped with SlidePads and one MobilPad. This outstanding technology has been an important criterion for People´s Daily`s decision for the UNISET. The UNISET is also equipped with an IROLOC system for automatic roller adjustment.

Impressive Success Story

The new press will help to continue the impressive success story of UNISET installations in China. Recently also Guizhou Ribao, Sichuan Ribao and Anhui Ribao integrated this press type to their production portfolio. All in all this means 136 UNISETs producing in China – a convincing proof for the eminent acceptance of this press by Chinese printers. The new UNISET for People’s Daily will be installed at the end of this year at the totally new and impressive building at their most recent printing site. Several existing presses are supposed to be moved to the new building as well.

The new Chinese year, by the way, is the year of the horse, what represents an irresistible zest for action. A good sign for the future cooperation of People´s Daily and manroland web systems.
