New GATF/PIA Board for 2003-2004 Installed

November 18, 2003 -- John Green was appointed GATF/PIA Chairman of the Board and James Mayes was named GATF/PIA First Vice Chairman. Eric Delzer is GATF/PIA Second Vice Chairman and Dwight Vicks is GATF/PIA Treasurer with Charles "Buddy" Vaughan serving as GATF/PIA Secretary/Chair, Association Relations. The term of office will be 2003-2004. Michael Makin GATF/PIA Chief Executive Officer Makin, a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, holds an honors degree in journalism from Carleton University (Ottawa, Ontario). He began his association management career in 1986 with the Canadian Construction Association (CCA). Over a nine-year period, he assumed increasing levels of responsibility at CCA, ultimately becoming the association’s Deputy Chief Staff Executive. In 1995, Makin was appointed President of the Canadian Printing Industries Association, a position he held until becoming Chief Operating Officer of PIA in January of 2001. He was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of PIA in November 2001. Makin is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives and is a past national president of the Alumni Association of Carleton University, where he also served on the university’s Board of Governors and Senate. He and his wife, Maureen, have a five-year-old daughter, Emma. GATF/PIA Officers John Green GATF/PIA Chairman of the Board John came to Automated Graphic Systems in 1982, only seven years after the company opened its doors in 1975. He is a 1975 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he obtained a Bachelors degree in Accounting. A year later he became a Certified Public Accountant and worked at a small printing company and some accounting firms. John joined AGS as it’s Controller in 1982, then in 1984 was promoted to General Manager. In 1992, he again moved up in the company, this time accepting the role as President. Since then, annual sales at Automated Graphic Systems have grown from 3 million to 37 million! John was the past chairman of Printing Industries of America’s (PIA) Finance Committee and is presently the First Vice Chairman of PIA. He has been on PIA’s Board of Directors since 1994. In addition to his active involvement with PIA, John plays a key role with Printing Industries of Maryland (PIM), where he served as Board Chairman from 1994 through 1996, and as a Board Member from 1988 through 1997. John resides in Issue, Maryland, with his wife Tricia. Tricia and John have two daughters and a son. James Mayes GATF/PIA First Vice Chairman James H. Mayes, Jr. is the President of Colorcraft of Virginia, Inc., a mid-sized, high-end commercial printing company in Sterling, Virginia. Prior to acquiring Colorcraft in 1986, Jim was the Vice President of Sales for two area commercial Printers. Jim served as the Chairman of the Printing Industries of VA, in 1996 and is currently the Chairman of the Virginia Printing Foundation. Jim serves on the local, advisory board for BB&T Bank. Jim is currently the Vice Chairman for GATF, and when the boards are combined in November 2003, he will become the Vice Chairman for GATF/PIA. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the American University in Washington, D.C. He is an avid fresh water fisherman and enjoys golf. Jim and his wife, Kathy, of 36 years reside in Potomac, Maryland. They have two daughters, Michelle and Meredith, who work at Colorcraft. Eric Delzer GATF/PIA Second Vice Chairman Delzer, president of Delzer Lithograph, has 32 years of experience in the printing industry. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Printing Industries of Wisconsin for 15 years including previously serving as chairman. On the national level, Delzer has served on the board of directors of PIA since 1993. He is also actively involved in his community, sitting on the board of the Wisconsin chapter of Academic Achievement. Delzer holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dwight Vicks III GATF/PIA Treasurer Dwight Vicks III is president of Vicks Lithographic and Printing Corporation, Yorkville, New York. Vicks involvement with PIA includes representing Region 1 on the Finance and Administration Committee, as well as the to the board of directors. Vicks is active in the Printing and Imaging Association, New York State. He has been a member of the group's board of directors since 1994, and its treasurer from 1996-2000. Vicks obtained a bachelors in Arts and Sciences from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in 1984, and later earned a masters in Business Administration from the same university in 1991. Between degrees Vicks worked at the Bank of New York in New York City as a management trainee and later as a corporate lending officer. He also served in 1984 as an assistant campaign manager for New York Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-23rd), who is now in his 10th term in Congress. After earning his masters degree, Vicks joined the family firm in 1991 and in 1993 became vice president. In 1999, he became president. Vicks and his wife Jean have twins Sara and Dwight, and a daughter named Emily. Charles "Buddy" Vaughan GATF/PIA Secretary/Chair, Association Relations The president of Vaughan Printing, Vaughan has 34 years of experience in the printing industry. Vaughan has been actively involved with PIA in many capacities for many years. Vaughan has served on the Vision 21, Executive and Education Steering Committees. He has also served on the Association Relations Committee for which he is now vice-chairman. Vaughan has also been actively involved on the Government Affairs and is a longstanding member of the PrintPAC Chairman’s Club. Vaughan is an active member of PIA of the South and has served on the Local Leader Board for PIA of the South. Vaughan currently resides in Franklin, TN with his wife Nancy. They have three adult daughters.
