IDEAlliance Announces 1st Open Format for Exchange & Rendering of Enhanced for Tablet Publications

Press release from the issuing company

Details to be announced at upcoming IDEAlliance PRIMEX East Conference and Createasphere's Digital Asset Management Conference in New York City

Alexandria, Virginia – IDEAlliance®, a leading developer of best practices and specifications for print and electronic media, is proud to announce the release of Version1.0 of its OpenEFT™ Format.  OpenEFT will be featured at two events in New York City: at the Createasphere Digital Asset Management Conference on October 7-8, 2013, and at the IDEAlliance PRIMEX East Conference on October 9, 2013. OpenEFT is the first open format specification for the exchange and rendering of interactive magazines on tablets and mobile devices.

Publication of the open format is intended to foster workflow efficiencies, technology innovation, and reader engagement. Rendering for editorial content, advertisements, rich media and interactive enhancements found in today's tablet publications is enabled by this industry created specification. The OpenEFT initiative was launched in April 2013 and over the past 6 months, an intense industry-wide effort engaged publishers, digital newsstands, and technology partners who reviewed 3 draft formats leading to the release of OpenEFT Version 1.0.

“All across the media value chain whether it's CTOs of magazines, production staff in the trenches, or developers of digital newsstands – the absence of an open standard for multi-platform publishing is inhibiting the development of innovative production tools to support the creative needs of publishers and advertisers,” said David Steinhardt, President and CEO of IDEAlliance. "OpenEFT offers publishers the ability to produce and export their content, including all associated interactive elements, into one standardized format for display across a wide range of devices, while minimizing disruption to current workflows."

IDEAlliance will also be presenting its Integrated Media Workflow (IMW) Lab™ at the Digital Asset Management Conference. This exhibit will showcase the latest technologies and solutions for transforming media production and distribution, where integration, made possible by employing DAM technologies at the heart, is now a core requirement. The IMW Lab features 6 workflow stages and 12 technology suppliers to demonstrate how digital media content distribution channels can be added to the portfolio of any publisher or advertiser.  Live educational tours will be conducted in the Expo to show attendees how they can transform their print-centric linear workflows into modern integrated media workflows, with the help of DAM technologies. The IDEAlliance PRIMEX East Conference is a one-day event where leading media executives will focus on the impact of new technology on strategic business models, partnerships and planning. Interactive sessions will examine how workflow processes and systems are being used to effectively compete and meet strategic objectives, and will address the integration of print and digital platforms to reduce friction, speed information, and meet evolving needs of media producers and distributors.
