Press release from the issuing company
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, has been listed on the 2013/2014 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), marking the fifth consecutive year it has received the prestigious recognition. Only 333 component companies were selected to DJSI World 2013/2014 following RobecoSAM's Corporate Sustainability Assessment of nearly 3,000 invited companies.
"Sonoco has been committed to corporate responsibility and sustainable business practices throughout our 114-year history," said M. Jack Sanders, president and CEO. "As one of only a handful of global packaging companies listed on DJSI World, we understand the importance of reducing the environmental footprint from our global operations, providing a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, providing innovative packaging and recycling solutions to meet our customers' sustainability goals and supporting the communities where we operate by providing ongoing engagement with all stakeholders."
From the assessment, Sonoco received industry-leading scores in operational eco-efficiency, supply chain management and corporate citizenship/philanthropy. More details about Sonoco's overall corporate responsibility and sustainability efforts are available at www.sonoco.com/sustainability.
