XMF Workflow increases press room business for Georgia-based customer
Valhalla, N.Y. - Demonstrating efficiency and flexibility of its workflow, FUJIFILM North America Corporation’s Graphic Systems Division announces the installation of its XMF Workflow, a powerful and flexible production workflow at Brown Industries Inc., a Dalton, GA-based provider of printing, product samples, design, workflow integration, and tactical direction.
Built around PDF and JDF technologies, and with over 4,500 customers worldwide, the XMF Workflow provides a rich set of capabilities in pre-flighting, color management, imposition and screening for a variety of output devices. It integrates the latest Adobe technology APPE and is JDF compliant. XMF provides intelligent automation, flow and color control, flexibility and improved communication as well as the direct communication to XMF Remote, which is an extremely powerful Job Submission/Job Approval solution, simple to use and fully integrated with XMF Workflow.
“For the past six years, we have been using a workflow that required using another program to build impositions, making it rather cumbersome,” said Bill Kregel, pre-press manager, Brown Industries Inc. “We would have a job set up for press number one, and ready to plate, and at the last minute scheduling makes the change to print on press number two, we would have to go all the way back within FlatWorker, and reconstruct everything, and then bring it back into the workflow software before we could produce the plates for the other press. We struggled with this limitation within our former workflow system because we have two different 40” presses, and scheduling dictates what press the job will run on. The trapping abilities lacked, and were inconsistent. The ripping was slow, and files to the platesetter could take over an hour.”
Workflow is a crucial function at the heart of any print operation, whether offset, digital or a combination of both. XMF Workflow is a powerful and flexible production hub that offers a rich set of capabilities for a variety of output devices that include platesetters, digital presses and Fujifilm’s J Press 720 digital inkjet press.
“The XMF Workflow has many high value features, and provides Brown Industries Inc. the flexibility and ease-of-use they need to increase their productivity, quality and efficiency,” said Jason Kammes, software business development manager, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division.
“XMF Workflow is much more flexible. We really like the imposition built right-in, you don’t have to go to another program,” added Kregel. “It’s so much quicker and again, more flexible. We looked at updating our former workflow, and with respect to the total cost of ownership, there is no comparison. This is a major move for us, the install went really well, and we have a great relationship with Fujifilm. With XMF, Fujifilm has introduced a great product into the market. I can see the David and Goliath story coming to fruition in the market place of production workflows; I wanted to be a part of it.”
