The Garvey Group Adds Eighth KBA Press—A New Rapida 162a 64” Large Format

Press release from the issuing company

Continuing growth and demand for labels and top sheets prompts new KBA press installation

KBA North America proudly announces that The Garvey Group, a network of advertising, marketing, print production, and fulfillment services based in the Chicago suburb of Niles, Illinois, is adding its eighth KBA press in 2013---a new Rapida 162a 64-inch six-color press with UV curing. This latest addition at the firm is due to be operational later this month at its Niles, IL facility.

“In response to continuing growth and demand for labels and top sheets, The Garvey Group is investing in a new 64-inch KBA 162a six-color press with UV curing.  We are seeing positive signs from our customer base,” says Ed Garvey, owner and president of The Garvey Group, “and this acquisition reinforces our commitment to serving our clients with the best people and the best equipment. This acquisition will also answer capacity needs due to a growing customer base and increasing sales volume.  The demand for our product continues to grow and the technology advancements that KBA has made to its latest-generation 64-inch UV press made this an easy decision.  With two KBA Rapida 205 81-inch presses and a KBA Rapida 142 56-inch press already in our Niles facility, the addition of a KBA Rapida 162a 64-inch UV press will give us the flexibility to have even greater speed to market and unprecedented redundancy and allow us to expand the capacity of large format production at The Garvey Group.”

“This capital investment will provide The Garvey Group with a competitive edge and profitability in its market space for many years to come,” says Steve Korn, KBA director of national and key accounts.  “We applaud Ed Garvey and his team for taking the initiative to invest in this ‘step-change technology’. This new press will yield significant benefits of expedited job-to-job change-over and higher throughput at lower operating costs and that’s what’s most important in these challenging economic times.”

A high priority for the firm was to increase its UV capacity for its customers. With the installation of the new Rapida 162a, Garvey will have unprecedented redundancy for its UV jobs with multiple presses with UV capabilities. UV work can be produced on the existing KBA Rapida 205 81-inch press or onto the new Rapida 162a after its installation. The Garvey team chose to have the new Rapida 162a press equipped with five UV lamps that are movable to any of nine exchange positions to provide the utmost in maximum flexibility. “This significantly increases our capacity for UV projects,” says David A. Nolte, vice president of sales at The Garvey Group, “and enables us to get work out even faster than before, which is quite important for our customers.”

“We’ve been very busy this past year,” says Nolte, “and have seen really nice growth throughout 2012 and 2013. Adding the new KBA press is in response to our customers’ fast turnaround needs; how can we produce their work faster? Add a new press. In addition to the new KBA press, we’ve also invested in a new 110-inch cutter with a material management system, new wide format digital machine with 1500 dpi output, and a new small format digital machine.”

The Garvey Group points to its long-lasting relationship as one of the keys to its success. “We have become true partners with KBA North America,” says Garvey. “In the past eight years, our company has invested in eight KBA presses. We have come to rely on their innovation and support.”
