Elite Status Recognizes Exceptional Safety Processes, Performance and Continuous Improvement
CHICAGO - R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company announced today that its Roanoke, Virginia production facility has been recertified with Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The Star certification is the highest that OSHA grants and is awarded only after a comprehensive on-site evaluation and confirmation that the facility's injury and illness rates are below the industry average nationwide. RR Donnelley's safety performance outperforms the industry average by more than 62%, as measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Recordable Case Rates.
"Roanoke is one of four RR Donnelley facilities that have pursued and achieved VPP Star Status," said Michael Manzella, Senior Vice President of Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality. "Maintaining injury-free workplaces requires constant diligence and awareness. Our employees do an exceptional job of following and enhancing the processes that guide us as we strive to provide a safe and healthy workplace."
"Achieving VPP Star Status is a significant accomplishment, but the recertification process can be even more demanding because it requires demonstration of continuous improvement. This recertification reflects our employees' commitment to exceptional safety standards," said Dan Knotts, RR Donnelley's Chief Operating Officer. "We regard workplace safety as the first and most important measure of operational excellence and we are delighted that our employees' efforts and performance have been recognized with this important certification."
