Oce Introduces Productivity Tool For Cut-sheet Printers

Press release from the issuing company

Atlanta, GA—October 27, 2003—Oce, a leading provider of production-class digital printing solutions, and Standard Hunkeler, a leading supplier of paper handling and print-finishing equipment in North America, today announced a new Roll-to-Cut-Sheet Feeder option. This powerful and innovative productivity tool is ideal for any high-volume production-printing environment using Océ VarioPrint 5160 or 5115 cut-sheet printers. Based on the UP3I industry standard, the new Hunkeler Roll Feeder gives high-volume operations a powerful option that greatly increases uptime and workflow productivity by delivering up to eight hours of unattended printing time. As a result, the Océ VarioPrint solution can remain in continuous operation, boosting reliability and performance. Operations can get more work done faster, to increase capacity and revenue opportunities. “The new Roll-to-Cut-Sheet Feeder demonstrates our dedication to solutions that move the market forward,” said Carl Joachim, vice president of marketing for Océ Printing Systems USA. “We are committed to providing innovative products that deliver real productivity improvements and business results for our customers.” Not only do users gain the competitive advantage of a high-volume paper source, they also retain full access to all of the other input paper drawers available on the Océ VarioPrint systems. Unlike other devices on the market, the roll feeder does not require users to sacrifice any existing input paper capacity to attach the device. Users gain the advantages of high-volume roll feeding while protecting their investment in flexible Océ VarioPrint sheet-fed printers. The Roll Feeder does not affect the rated speed of the attached digital print system. The Roll Feeder is especially beneficial for transaction applications such as statements or invoices that require multiple paper stocks for the same job. For example, an insurance package might need to include white paper, letterhead or other preprinted stock, and safety paper for checks. Special paper stock can still be drawn from the printers’ ample existing paper drawers, while the rest can be supplied by roll feed. The Feeder provides over 50,000 sheets per roll and up to eight hours of reliable, high-capacity input paper source, all at a significant labor savings. Users don’t have to frequently stop the printer to replace paper during high-volume jobs, while accidental double sheet feeding and damaged sheets are eliminated. Time previously spent filling source drawers with reams of paper can be used for other work. One 11" wide paper roll can supply both 8.5"x11" and 11"x17" formats to help users do more with fewer resources, and it takes just seconds to change form length via the centralized control console. The new Roll Feeder demonstrates Océ’s response to customer requirements for a large primary input paper source to support busy print operations. The Roll Feeder is designed for easy, convenient integration with existing operations, and it uses the smallest possible footprint to conserve valuable floor space. A built-in paper transport provides direct input to the printer, so customers don’t need to buy additional pieces of equipment to operate. The device can be left attached to the printer when not in use, which means operators don’t waste time disconnecting and moving equipment. Every Roll-to-Cut-Sheet system comes with a roll cart to make it easier to load paper onto the cut-sheet feeder. A centralized control console provides a single point of system operation, while the simple, intelligent touch screen guides the operator through all setup steps. The rotary cutting technology delivers precise, consistent cuts with minimal dust and chaff for a cleaner, healthier work environment. The Feeder maintains the cutting accuracy that is critical to the integrity of production-class applications, eliminating quality problems like image-shift and crossover. The ultra-long knife life can perform more than 20 million cuts before sharpening is required, resulting in lower maintenance costs. The Feeder’s core-driven unwinder eliminates sheet marking, which is especially important for pre-printed rolls, and helps cut down on wasted resources. The Standard Hunkeler Roll-to-Cut-Sheet Feeder will be available in December 2003 with a U.S. list price of $79,500.
