McCallum Printing Group Implements Latest Technologies from Heidelberg
Press release from the issuing company
TORONTO, March 25, 2004 -McCallum Printing Group located in downtown Edmonton, recently launched one of the most technologically advanced printing plants in the world, to satisfy their customers' needs. The company was developed from the ground up utilizing Heidelberg's most advanced tools.
The new operation offers state-of-the-art prepress, press and finishing solutions. These include Prinect Workflow, Heidelberg Topsetter P 102 with Satin Screening, two Speedmaster 102-6+LX's, Stitchmaster ST100 Stitcher and Polar 137ED Cutting System.
With Prinect, their workflow is automated from estimating through to shipping, via a common interface. The job ticket is generated by Prinance from the original estimate and provides the information necessary for Printready, the PDF based prepress workflow solution. The Printready workflow communicates directly with their proofing systems and computer to plate output devices, while providing the same data for CIP4. To enhance quality, the ink profiles are generated by Prepress Interface, utilizing CIP4 standards for their new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102-6+LX.
Darren Pohl, McCallum Printing Group’s President, explains, “we are one of the few plants in Canada that offers technological advantages such as Thermal CTP, Stochastic Screening and CIP4 workflow. Being on the leading edge will provide customers with the best product quality available anywhere."
High quality printing on various substrates with very efficient sheet transfer up to 40 point board, is achieved on their new Heidelberg Speedmaster 40" six colour press with "Preset-Plus" feeder and extended delivery with coater.
To achieve high productivity in their finishing department, installed is a Polar 137ED System 2, which includes a Stack Lift, Jogger with air removal and an off loading Transomat, which eliminates all lifting to and from the cutter. This allows McCallum an advantage of achieving approximately 200% productivity over a conventional stand alone cutter, while reducing bottlenecks in this department.
Professional saddle stitching is accomplished on the Heidelberg Stitchmaster ST100, with its vertical pockets complimented by a heavy-duty precise trimmer. The operators are supported by menu driven set-up procedure information to enhance make-readies.
Empowering these products and solutions provides the McCallum Printing Group with a very efficient manufacturing environment, while providing top quality products for their customers.
“In a world faced with rapidly changing technology, Heidelberg has allowed us to build one of the most technologically advanced operations in Canada. As strategic partners, we’ve been proactive in planning the steps necessary to ensure we maintain our leadership position in the future," says McCallum Printing Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard McCallum.
