U.S. economy is expanding slowly, but could gain traction this spring

Conference Board - Last week: At the start of 2013, the U.S. is expanding slowly, but could gain some traction as early as this spring. Already there are signs of improvement in terms of better home building and a little more retail buying (excluding vehicles). The ordering rate is still anemic and business continues to sit on cash while investing at a very cautious pace. The latest data onThe Conference Board Leading Economic Index® for the U.S. suggests that these conditions could slowly improve over the next few months. Meanwhile, the wrangling over public spending continues. So the picture is not uniformly positive. But it is a better picture than only a few short months ago.
