Presstek Delivers a Smarter Way to Print at drupa 2004

Press release from the issuing company

HUDSON, N.H., Feb. 25 -- Presstek, Inc. today unveiled its strategy for drupa 2004, the world's largest printing trade fair held in Dusseldorf, Germany, May 6th through 19th, 2004. "Over the past two years we have been focused on strengthening our overall business foundation," said Edward J. Marino, Presstek's President and Chief Executive Officer. "This includes our products, our marketing partnerships, and our financial position. As a result of this work, a new direction has emerged for Presstek. What you will see from us at drupa 2004 and into the future is a balanced approach to our business. You will see a more market- driven, customer-oriented organization, with a strong heritage of technology innovation. We are working to broaden our addressable market by taking our digital imaging technology to as many segments of the market as possible. The result: More customers will have access to A Smarter Way To Print." New Products. 2003 saw the commercial availability of Applause, the world's first process-free offset printing plate. At drupa 2004, Presstek will launch yet another groundbreaking innovation -- a new laser imaging platform for the future. ProFire Excel, the next generation of thermal imaging, brings improved productivity, higher quality and reduced cost to thermal CTP and DI applications. With a smaller footprint and significantly fewer parts, ProFire Excel supports a 16-micron dot and stochastic (FM) screening. The ProFire Excel platform is intended to be available for incorporation in new presses and computer-to-plate products that will bring the power of streamlined digital workflow within the reach of more print operations than ever before. Products slated for release at drupa 2004 incorporating Presstek's new technologies include: * Next generation Computer-to-Plate (CTP) systems * Multiple new DI presses * New digital media for on-press applications Details on these product announcements will be forthcoming in the weeks leading up to drupa. Expanded Markets. The addition of Kodak Polychrome Graphics and AB Dick to Presstek's portfolio of distribution partners was a significant advance for the company in 2003. Marino said, "We intend to demonstrate a continued expansion in Presstek's distribution channel in 2004 and beyond as we work to make our company more accessible to a broader range of customers." Presstek expects that ProFire Excel-enabled products and solutions will be a key enabler in this market expansion effort, bringing a blend of high quality offset printing and ease-of-entry pricing to the in-plant, quick print and commercial print markets. Marino continued, "We believe that the next generation of ProFire Excel enabled DI presses will make DI the best choice for first-time buyers of four-color presses." Environmental Excellence. Presstek has long been committed to environmental excellence in all of its operations. Presstek pioneered the chemistry-free imaging of offset printing plates, making many of the chemicals normally associated with the offset printing process unnecessary and enabling a substantial reduction in energy consumption. More than ten years ago, Presstek introduced the first on-press chemistry-free plate with PEARLdry; drupa 2000 saw the first application of chemistry-free printing plates to CTP with Anthem. And in 2003, Presstek introduced Applause, the world's first process-free offset printing plate. From raw materials to finished goods, in its manufacturing process and that of its customers, Presstek truly delivers A Smarter Way to Print. Brand Identity. Presstek also unveiled a new corporate brand identity that is aligned with its future direction, emphasizing the tagline "A Smarter Way to Print." Marino stated, "We believe our new identity and logo portray Presstek's balanced approach to our business and a renewed emphasis on the customer. It will better represent Presstek as the source for innovative technology and solutions for the printing industry and will act as a beacon to the print service provider of the future." Presstek at drupa 2004. In addition to occupying over 200 square meters in Hall 9 (Stand B56), Presstek will have a presence in a number of partner stands, including KBA, Ryobi, Heidelberg, Sakurai, Kodak Polychrome Graphics, and AB Dick. Marino concluded, "The new product introductions and marketing announcements you will see from Presstek at drupa 2004 and beyond are in line with our new direction. These announcements address the market's need for easier access to solutions that deliver faster turnaround, high quality color, shorter runs, more flexibility and a lower cost of operation. We believe that you will like what you see at the Presstek stand at drupa: New Products, New Technologies, a New Look-all aimed at bringing to market A Smarter Way to Print."
