Atlantic Zeiser Highlights DIGILINE Sector-Specific Solutions

Press release from the issuing company

The Atlantic Zeiser Group, a leading developer and supplier of modules and integrated end-to-end system solutions for industrial digital and security printing, has expanded its DIGILINE system solutions for printing, coding, serializing and verifying roll materials, sheets and 3D products. The expanded range has been designed for sector-specific applications. On a DIGILINE Web and a DIGILINE Sheet at drupa, the company will demonstrate applications that are already standard practice in security and label printing, package coding and serializing.

The modular design DIGILINE includes components for variable inkjet printing on a variety of different materials, verifying the print results and product tracking throughout the entire logistics chain. At drupa the DIGILINE solutions have been modified for label printing. An OMEGA DoD inkjet printer with environmentally-friendly SMARTCURE UV LED curing system as well as the VERICAM camera-based verification unit are combined with the roll-to-roll transport of the DIGILINE Web 300. The key outstanding feature is the ability to print and code from the first label. In the event of production-related pauses, the BLS machine software from Atlantic Zeiser ensures the transport runs automatically to the point of the last correctly printed label. This ensures 100% material utilization with no waste. The splice unit cuts out faulty labels automatically.

Coding with added value
The innovative developments in the DIGILINE meet a common requirement for specialist and booklet label producers, as well as for self-adhesive identification solutions with added value for the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Using the OMEGA printing, serializing and coding component from Atlantic Zeiser, variable data is printed in plain text, as a 1D barcode as well as a 2D Datamatrix code. VERICAM checks the quality and classification level of the printed information. In the event of products not meeting the quality standards, the Atlantic Zeiser software regulates a production pause that automatically halts the line and moves the roll to the last correctly printed label after the print parameters have been modified. The DIGILINE is then re-started, and production is continued; with no loss of material and no extended downtime.

The result is zero-error production, high print quality and variability for frequently changing print data, all meeting the most stringent safety standards. With pharmaceutical and medicine labels in particular, the need for quality and high efficiency is paramount - in line with country-specific stipulations for product identification and tracking that are becoming increasingly important. It ensures maximum data security and can even be used for clinical studies. The degree of variability and flexibility of Atlantic Zeiser’s DoD inkjet solution permits the efficient coding and serializing of minimal batch sizes. The protective transport in particular ensures optimum adhesion of the booklet labels in the printing process.

Challenging printing requirements
Due to the limited label printing surface, there is a quality requirement of 360 dpi to ensure machine readability and checkability of the products. Consecutive numbers, authentication and product codes as well as variable data and Datamatrix codes can be printed onto the labels. Specific features required by the EU for pharmaceutical products and medications can be easily added, too, via barcodes, serial or randomized alphanumeric sequences or via 2D Datamatrix codes.

Carl-Michael Heüveldop, Chief Marketing Officer, Atlantic Zeiser, says: "In the challenging markets for special labels, the requirements for variable coding and printing are continuing to rise. Our customers do not shirk their responsibilities in terms of legal stipulations and their implementation. We see ourselves here as solutions providers, offering the pharmaceutical industry considerable added value in the labelling process, for example. The sophisticated DIGILINE system solutions see our portfolio including innovative sector-specific solutions that offer added value for these customers in particular. The result of our high performance coding and printing solutions for pharmaceutical and medication labels speaks for itself in terms of print quality, speed and cost-effective job changes."

Atlantic Zeiser will be exhibiting industrial digital printing solutions at drupa in Hall 11, Stand C56 under the slogan 'Beyond Printing'.
