SMART Papers Announces Events for Graphics Pros and Students

Press release from the issuing company

HAMILTON, Ohio--Feb. 11, 2004-- An elegant, highly detailed book on branding, logo design and typography is available free to graphics professionals attending one of the 25-city speaking engagements featuring global design legend Doyald Young. The events, which start this month and continue through the end of 2004, are sponsored by premium papermaker SMART Papers and the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA). Young, who is author of the new book, The Art of the Letter, will keynote the two-hour conferences. SMART Papers published the 96-page book which spotlights Young's work, his insight and expertise, his design approaches, and examples of different letterforms and logos as they were originally produced for his clients. The limited-edition book, which will be given to attendees of the AIGA events, also serves as a print demonstration of SMART Papers' ultra-premium Kromekote, Carnival and Benefit papers. The Art of the Letter is dedicated to students, teachers, graphic designers, typophiles and to one of the world's foremost type designers, Hermann Zapf of Darmstadt, Germany. "Designers and students will see how important it is still in the computer age to study letterforms and to learn to use a pencil and pen for creative work," said Zapf. "They will also see good printing done with special care. Graphics professionals and students alike will be very fortunate to receive this book." Events are now being scheduled. The February AIGA events with Young and SMART Papers in Florida and Texas are: -- Jacksonville, Feb. 16; -- Orlando, Feb. 18; -- Miami, Feb. 19; -- Austin, Feb. 24 and -- Dallas, Feb. 26. Other scheduled Young events include Washington DC, March 17. A Houston event is slated for April 14 and one in New Orleans is set for April 16. Young is also speaking at the HOW conference in San Diego, May 16-19. Still others are currently being scheduled for Spring, Summer and Fall 2004. Designers and graphics professionals in other major North American markets are asked to contact their local AIGA chapters for more information on specific dates in their cities. Young is a powerful educator who leaves a lasting impression on audiences worldwide. He gave standing-room-only presentations to the Los Angeles and San Diego AIGA chapters in January. "In the ranks of the visible, legendary designers that I have personally worked with, Doyald Young is the ultimate 'behind the scenes' designer," said Tim Needham, CEO and President of SMART Papers in a forward to the book. "He is renowned for seamlessly joining his clients' vision with his own design sense and making it look easy."
