INX, Xaar Collaborate to Debut NW140 press at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

Schaumburg, IL – INX International Ink Co. is set to introduce the new NW140 UV digital narrow web press at Graph Expo, which runs from September 11-14 in Chicago at McCormick Place. In developing a unique machine that includes Spartanics laser die-cutting capabilities, INX (booth #427) has also partnered with several industry suppliers including Xaar, which produced the 14 innovative Xaar 1001 printheads on the press.

The NW140 press is the latest addition to INX's highly successful EVOLVE Advanced Digital Solutions brand line.  It delivers single pass printing with eye-popping color at speeds up to 80' feet per minute on any label stock and provides for easy separation of printed labels.  Xaar's 1001 printheads are an essential factor for it to print 140 mm wide on any label stock.  This occurs by applying a proprietary pre-coat before printing a white base layer and CMYK, followed by a varnish coat.  LED curing lamps are used for the pre-coat, white base layer and varnish to hold the inkjet drops in position before a full cure is added by another LED lamp.

"We have been a Xaar partner since creating our first Xaar 128-based wide format printer more than 10 years ago," reflected Jim Lambert, VP and General Manager of INX International's Digital Division.  "We've gained invaluable experience with the Xaar 1001 printhead in the last two years with the INX CP100 cylindrical printer, and have discovered it to have extraordinary reliability and excellent tolerance for a wide range of inks.  We also designed our own drive electronics and ink supply for the printhead."

As the world's leading independent supplier of industrial inkjet printheads, Xaar's impressive industrial-strength 1001 printhead combines the most advanced design and manufacturing process to deliver high quality drop formation and placement accuracy.  The Xaar 1001 employs Xaar's TF Technology with its Hybrid Side Shooter architecture so that ink is re-circulated past the back of the nozzle.  This unique arrangement delivers unrivaled reliability and the ability to handle a wide range of fluid viscosities.  The impressive 1018 dpi apparent grayscale print resolution is achieved with seven selectable drop sizes ranging from 6 pl to 42 pl.  The 14 printheads on the NW140 press have seven ink channels with a base coat, white, yellow, cyan, magenta, black and clear for varnish.

"We are delighted that INX has combined their expertise in inkjet with Xaar's unique TF Technology and applied it to another fast growing field," said Chris Lynn, Xaar Americas' VP of Sales and Marketing.  "Of course, INX International has huge experience and credibility as a supplier to specialty printers, so they are well-placed to exploit the technology."
