Press release from the issuing company

Award Recognizes Development of Technologies with Predicted High Impact on Graphic Communications and Related Industries

Reston, VA -NPES, Secretary to the International Organization for Standardization/ Technical Committee 130/Working Group 2 (Prepress data exchange), announced that ISO 16612-2 Graphic technology – Variable data exchange – Part 2: Using PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5 has received the InterTech Technology Award. This prestigious award is sponsored by Printing Industries of America and honors the development of technologies predicted to have a major impact on the graphic arts and related industries.

According to NPES President Ralph Nappi, "Standards, like PDF/VT are increasingly important to the future success of our industry. NPES took a leadership role in this work because it will streamline digital workflows making it easier for printing companies to add variable data to their operations."

The development of this significant International Standard was the result of the hard work and expertise of the members of Task Force 3 of ISO/TC130/WG2, led by its chairman Tim Donahue, Managing Consultant, Kodak MarketMover Business Advantage Solutions and vice-chairman, Dov Isaacs, Principal Scientist, Adobe Systems Incorporated.

ISO 16612-2 defines the PDF/VT document format and methods that enable reliable document exchange for variable data and transactional printing. Transactional documents include invoices, statements, and documents that integrate billing information with marketing information (TransPromo). This standard provides for those involved in variable data printing to take advantage of the tools, conventions and technologies already in use. PDF/VT streamlines production workflows for Direct Mail, Transactional and TransPromo print jobs, simplifying VDP printing in a range of environments from desktop printers to digital production presses. Additionally, PDF/VT supports the full graphics model of PDF 1.6.

ISO 16612-2:2010 is available for purchase from NPES as well as ISO member national standards organizations. For more information or to order, visit the NPES Standards Workroom or contact Debbie Orf, NPES Assistant Director of Standards, at phone: 703/264-7229 or e-mail: [email protected].
